About the PASS Program

NSW Goalball introduces a program to be implemented into the Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) curriculum for High school students in their PDHPE classes. The aim of this program is to create enhanced awareness and understanding within students of sport for athletes with low vision and blindness.

Goalball is a unique sport that is played at an international level in the Paralympics by athletes with vision impairments. Through the PASS Program students will perform drills and skill acquisition activities whilst under blindfold providing a hands-on expereince in the challenges and triumphs of living with a disability. Through this expereince NSW Goalball aims to create an inclusive environment for all, and to promote the idea that Goalball is a sport that is truly for everyone.

Major benefits include:

  • Increased understanding and awareness of blindness within the community, resulting in a reduction in bullying among peers.
  • Heightened development in the use of other senses such as sound and touch
  • Develop and demonstrate tacticle playing strategies through offensive, defensive and orientation skills to apply in-game
  • Empowerment, empathy and self-confidence through adapting to a new and unfamiliar environment
