About NSW Goalball
Goalball is a team sport played competitively by athletes with vision impairment. It was created after WWII in an effort to rehabilitate and keep veterans with blindness and low vision active.
Goalball was first introduced to the Paralympics in 1976. As of 2017 there were 81 competing nations.
NSW Goalball is a State Sporting Organisation for people with Disabilities (SSOD) that delivers goalball programs, training, events and competitions within New South Wales.
NSW Goalball has the largest member base in Australia and offers the largest school’s program in the world. In 2019, more than 7,200 school-aged children participated in Goalball programs.
2021 will be a HUGE year for NSW Goalball. After a quiet 2020 due to COVID-19 we are:
- ramping up our schools program;
- increasing the size of our Sydney City Cup competition
- delivering a number of inclusion and ‘come and try’ days around the state;
- Hosting the Australian Goalball Championships;
- Sending 4 members to the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics
Perks of the Program
This is far more than simply refereeing a few matches or basic data entry to tick some boxes as part of your degree.
At NSW Goalball we genuinely care about what we do and believe sport is the ultimate opportunity to foster a sense of positivity and community in people’s lives. We are looking for people that are just as passionate as we are.
Every intern selected to work with NSW Goalball will also have the opportunity:
- to work with and learn from Australian Paralympic Athletes;
- to learn from one of the most respected CEOs in Australian sport;
- to undertake bespoke training on the largest sports administration platform in Australia;
- free membership to the Australian Sports Professionals Association- opening the door to networking and knowledge sharing initiatives.
