NSW Goalball wins Sport NSW Organisation of the Year 2023!
Sydney, NSW – 21/11/2023
NSW Goalball was announced on Monday evening as the winner of Sport NSW Organisation of the Year!
Nominated in the category against high-calibre opponents and some of the state’s largest sporting organisation, NSW Goalball beat out Football NSW, Basketball NSW, Gymnastics NSW and Volleyball NSW for the award and marks the first time a Blind Sport has ever won Organisation of the Year.
The win comes off the back of a phenomenal year of growth for the NSW Goalball.
2023 has seen the organisation greatly increase its program delivery, partnerships and awareness off the court and incredible performance on it at the Australian Goalball Championships.
The award was also in recognition of the significant growth of our Goalball 4 Schools program, which has been greatly improved through alignments with new strategic partners.
These new partnerships allow us to deliver educational opportunities that focus broadly on inclusivity and raising the awareness of the capabilities of people living with a disability, not just sport.
Current acting NSW Goalball Chair Nic Watkins was on hand on Monday night to accept the accolade and delivered a special message to the organisation’s members and volunteers.
“This sport and our community is something incredibly special. It transcends sport,” Watkins said.
“The sustainable growth and every minor win we have seen over the past couple of years is entirely due to each and every one of our members.
“Be it those generously volunteering their time to officiate to the players stepping on the court, giving it their all and having fun.”
NSW Goalball is a Not-for-Profit State Sporting Organisation for people with Disabilities (SSOD).
We administer training, competitions and educational events for members as young as 11 to over 80 all over NSW.
We exist to conduct, encourage, promote, advance and administer the sport of Goalball throughout New South Wales for all levels of ability.
